Annan Athletic v Brechin City - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

Following the international break, attention now to turns to the Scottish Cup as City make the long journey to face fellow League Two side Annan Athletic in the 2nd round of the competition.

TEAM NEWS
After coming off injured in the last match against Stirling, Ross Brown has trained this week and will be assessed tomorrow.

Goalkeeper Ross Sinclair comes back into contention after missing the last month through injury. The on-loan St Johnstone stopper has been away on international duty with the Scotland Under 19 squad but trained with City on Wednesday. Manager Mark Wilson said, "It will have been a great experience for him and it's a boost to have him back. I think we have real competition in that area with Ross and how Lewis is performing just now - he's made some exceptional saves in the last 3 or 4 games."

More welcome news on the injury front is that Sean McIntosh has returned to training after fracturing his metatarsal in August. Mark said, "He joined in with training on Monday and we stepped it up again on Wednesday where he took part in the vast majority of the session. In terms of fitness he has come on very well. We will assess him tomorrow to see if there has been any ill reaction and will hopefully be included in the squad."

Mark added, "We've had a larger number of players train with us this week but there is still a few injuries and niggles that we will still have to assess tomorrow morning, but hopefully everyone will be fit and ready to go."

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back to the last match against Stirling a fortnight ago, Mark said, "I thought we played well for an hour. I thought we controlled things and the players did everything that we asked of them. We played some good football, had some decent chances and scored a well worked goal.

"However we didn't put the game to bed and that gave them a lift. After they scored their goal, they were the team in the ascendancy and we tired which allowed them to take control of the game. Lewis McMinn made an excellent save in the last minute and on the whole a point was probably a fair result. I was pleased with what the players showed in the first hour.

"We had a bounce game against Peterhead at Glebe Park last Friday where we drew 1-1 against a strong side. We had a few guys carrying knocks who couldn't play but we did very well in that game and passed the ball nicely. It was another positive showing from us and something that we will build on."

With the departure of two players this week, Mark is still looking to add to his squad. He said, "We could have someone join us next week who will have a look at in training. There's one or two other names going about so we will assess the situation but these things can take time.

"Fionn McLeod Kay wanted to pursue something else and we respect that decision and in terms of Paddy - he's been a great servant to the club over the years. With Ross coming back from international duty, I had a discussion with Paddy and we both agreed that it would be better for him to be playing regular football and he goes with our best wishes. He was a great guy to have around the squad and a top goalkeeper, but it would be better for him at this stage of his career to play games."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's cup tie, Mark said, "With the way we've played since I've come in there has been some real positives. We'll take that confidence into the game tomorrow. I think both teams would have preferred a club from a different league and probably an easier tie but we are confident going into the game. I'm happy with how the squad is looking at the minute and how the boys have trained.

"It's a very important game. A good cup run goes a long way financially but also benefits the club as a whole."

MATCH OFFICIALS
The match referee tomorrow is Colin Steven who will be assisted by Simon MacLean and Michael Williamson.
