Brechin City v Queen's Park - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

City head into the first of three consecutive home matches as we welcome Queen's Park to the Glebe this evening in a rescheduled League Two clash.

The fixture will see former Manager Ray McKinnon return to the Glebe with his Spiders' side who, last weeks defeat at league leaders Cove aside, have been in excellent form since his appointment. This sequence of results has seen them rise into a promotion play-off spot.

City meanwhile head into the game off the back of an excellent point against 2nd placed Edinburgh City on Saturday, recording a very welcome clean sheet in the process.

TEAM NEWS
Despite coming off with a hip injury on Saturday, defender Scott Reekie trained last night and will be available for selection. This means City's only absentee will be Ross Brown who is currently recovering from an ankle injury.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back at a hard-earned point against Edinburgh City on Saturday, Manager Mark Wilson said, "I thought it was an excellent point especially when you consider where Edinburgh are in the league and the players that they've got. I thought it was a terrific performance from the boys and they did everything that was asked of them. I know we didn't win the game but that performance gave me a lot of satisfaction. We just lacked that bit of quality when the opportunities came our way but we frustrated them and we could have easily nicked something - we just couldn't find that final pass."

Alex Petkov made his debut in the centre of defence after signing on loan from Hearts and Mark was delighted with the impact he made. He said, "He looked comfortable. We knew he was going to add strength and a real physical presence. He was quick and assured and it was clear he had confidence, coming from a good club and having had experience in League One already this season. So overall we were delighted with his contribution and he gave the players confidence around him."

Speaking on the match this evening, he said, "The three home matches coming up are hugely important - every game is important for us right now. When you get three home matches on the bounce at home you've got to look to maximise your points. As much as I was happy picking up a point at Edinburgh, at home we've always got to look and win the games. We'll be looking to keep the same shape defensively but be a bit more proactive going forward.

MATCH OFFICIALS
The referee this evening will be Chris Graham, who will be assisted by Graham Chambers and Daniel Graves.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Queen's Park 5-2 Brechin City - 9th November 2019
It was an afternoon to forget for City at the national stadium as they slumped to a heavy defeat against Queen’s Park. The game was effectively over as a contest after just 35 minutes as the Spiders raced into a 4-1 lead with Paul McManus pulling a goal back for City as Manager Mark Wilson was left lamenting his sides’ defending during a torrid first half.

The home side made it five shortly into the second half through Kouider-Aissa, before Luke Watt netted a fine consolation six minutes from time to round off the scoring.
