Brechin City 1 Clachnacuddin 1

Match Report - By Steven Mew

A late strike from substitute Scott Logan salvaged a point for City against Clachnacuddin yesterday afternoon.

Despite the equaliser, City will undoubtedly feel it was another two points dropped in the title race as their struggles on home turf continued.

There were 3 changes to the side that defeated Rothes last weekend, with Scott Bright and Marc Scott coming into the side whilst Kieran Sweeney made his first start. Ewan Loudon missed out through suspension, with Lewis Milne sidelined through injury and Kevin McHattie dropping to the bench.

The high-flying Lilywhites arrived at the Glebe in positive mood following their midweek win over Huntly and they threatened early on with two headers that ended up over the crossbar.

On 11 minutes City were millimetres away from opening the scoring when Spencer Moreland’s dinked cross was met by Scott Bright and his header appeared to be looping in at the back post but Josh Meekings did superbly well to clear off the line in acrobatic fashion.

Fraser Macleod and Lewis Martin both had shots blocked, and shortly after Liam Callaghan was also denied by another block before Macleod dragged a shot side.

James Anderson hooked a volley over for the visitors just before the half hour mark and they would come close again 8 minutes later when a dangerous cross from Craig Lawrie just evaded the onrushing Troy Cooper in front of goal.

City’s best chance of the half arrived on 37 minutes when Marc Scott squared the ball inside the box for the unmarked Dayle Robertson but the ball took an unfortunate bobble just as he pulled the trigger and his effort was blazed well over.

With the deadlock yet to be broken at the break, City had the first chance of the second half when Dayle Robertson teed up Scott Bright inside the box but his powerful strike was well held by on-loan Ross County keeper Logan Ross.

The home side were struggling to create openings and it was the Inverness outfit that opened the scoring on 70 minutes when a corner into the box caused confusion amongst the City defence and JAMES ANDERSON was on hand to knock home at the back post.

City needed a reaction and two minutes following the goal, Dayle Robertson fired over and the same player would come close again 6 minutes from time when he rattled the outside of the post from close range.

Just as it looked like Clach were going to hold on for the win, substitute SCOTT LOGAN popped up with the equaliser as he fired a left footed shot across Ross Logan and into the net via in the inside of the post.

City huffed and puffed in the closing stages as they chased a winning goal but again it wasn’t to be. Again there is little time to dwell on the result as we head into a midweek fixture against Deveronvale at Princess Royal Park on Wednesday evening.
