Glasgow University 0 Brechin City 3

Match Report - By Keith Johnston

Brechin travelled south to take on Glasgow University in round 1 of the Scottish Cup, following the postponement of Saturday's game. The prize on offer was a home game against Stirling Albion in round 2.

Brechin got off to a good start when Steve Hampshire got the opening goal in the 9th minute. His 25 yard effort found its way past goalkeeper King and into the corner of the net.

Before half time, City got a second. Paul Ritchie's shot was initially saved but Chris Templeman was following up to get his 14th of the season.

After the break, Brechin made the game safe with a third goal. Chris Templeman scoring from the penalty spot after the referee had spotted an infringement in the box.

City knew the game was won at this point and took their foot off the gas, allowing the Uni to have their best spell of the game. However, their efforts were not enough to get them a goal. Graeme MacDonald came closest when he hit the bar with two minutes remaining.

Overall, City did enough to win the game and always looked like they could step up a gear if necessary. Doubtless a good experience for the university players, but it was Brechin who lined themselves up a tricky looking tie against Stirling in round 2.
