Brechin slipped up after finishing with 10 men in a narrow defeat to Arbroath.
Craig Forsyth inflicted the damage in the 43rd minute, stabbing home from close range.
There were decent chances for both sides, with Forsyth shaving the bar with a header before scoring the decisive goal in the match.
In the 75th minute, Ross Harvey was shown a second yellow card and made his exit, reducing Brechin to 10 men and giving his side an uphill climb.
