Brechin City clinched a play-off place in style with a deserved victory over Ayr United, who slipped from top spot.

Brechin wasted a fourth minute penalty when Charlie King hammered his spot-kick against the post.

Ayr skipper Chris Aitken twice went close then Brechin's Rory McAllister had a drive saved by Stephen Grindlay.

Brechin took the lead in the 64th minute when McAllister headed home a Darren Smith corner, while Ayr's Ryan Stevenson drove inches wide late on.
