Match Report - By John Hoey
Brechin City and Aberdeen shared four goals in a very entertaining match at Glebe Park held as a memorial to former chairman David Will.
Just minutes before kick-off, the Trinity Road Stand was dedicated to Mr Will and a plaque was unveiled by Mr Will's widow Margaret and daughter Linsi to warm applause from both sets of supporters.
City manager Jim Weir made a number of changes to the side that had defeated Stenhousemuir on Saturday and opposing manager Mark McGhee fielded a very strong Aberdeen side.
The Dons went on the attack straight from the kick- off and came close to opening the scoring in the first few minutes.
Josh Magennis headed an Andrew Consodine cross from the left just past David Scott's right-hand post and seconds later the same player headed a Darren Mackie chip into the box inches past the target.
Aberdeen kept up the pressure and a Chris Maguire shot from the edge of the box after quarter of an hour hit the crossbar.
A goal just had to come though and it arrived for the visitors just seconds later when Fraser Fyvie headed home a Derek Young cross.
City were finding the visitors slick passing and quick movement on and off the ball difficult to handle but they kept battling on and Rory McAllister fired in a drive in the 26th minute which was well saved by Mark Howard.
Charlie King tried a shot from the edge of the box four minutes later but it was too direct and Howard saved easily and shortly afterwards a David McKenna 20 yard drive went narrowly past.
The visitors though always looked dangerous and a Paul Hartley free-kick on the stroke of half-time was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Scott.
City pushed forward immediately after the break and levelled the match within two minutes after a terrible mistake by Howard.
The keeper mishit a pass from his penalty area straight to McAllister who squared the ball across the box for McKenna who drilled a low drive into the net.
Brechin kept up the pressure and a brilliant piece of skill in the box by King five minutes later ended with him firing a shot just over the bar.
King was in the thick of the action again just minutes later when he picked up the ball in the penalty area and shot just over the bar.
Brechin were certainly having the better of the second-half and they deservedly took the lead in the 71st minute with a well executed goal from McAllister.
Mark Docherty flighted a superb cross into the box for McAllister who brilliantly glanced a header well beyond Howard's reach.
City seemed to heading for victory but they were denied what would have been a thoroughly deserved win right at the death when. Consodine rose above the home defence to power a header past substitute keeper Scott Morrison.
