Brechin City 1 Livingston 3

Match Report - By John Hoey

City’s five game unbeaten league run came to an end after league leaders Livingston won by 3-1 at Glebe Park.

Although City enjoyed the bulk of pressure and possession in the opening 45 minutes, they were unable to turn their superiority into goals and were made to pay the price when Livi scored two late goals from ex City striker Iain Russell and Craig Barr.

The visitors wrapped up victory with a Raffaele De Vita goal with fifteen minutes remaining although Ewan Moyes pulled a goal back right on the final whistle.

Manager Jim Weir made three changes to the side that had started the previous Saturday at Excelsior Stadium.

David McKenna replaced the suspended Rory McAllister while Jamie Redman and Neil Janczyk came in for Paul McLean and Kevin Byers who both dropped to the bench.

City started slowly, but they gradually assumed control with Redman and Charlie King both coming close.

Although City were putting plenty of pressure on the Livi defence during the course of the half they were finding it difficult to carve out any goal-scoring opportunities and they found themselves two goals down within four minutes of the first period ending.

The visitors’ first goal came in 41 minutes.

Robbie Winters made space for himself on the right and sent a cross into the penalty-box where ex City favourite Russell had the simplest of tasks in tapping the ball past Craig Nelson, and the visitors doubled their lead just a couple of minutes later when full-back Craig Barr headed a David Sinclair free-kick into the bottom corner of the net.

Kevin Byers replaced Neil Janczyk at the beginning of the second-half and although City huffed and puffed they were finding it hard going against a side who increased in confidence as the half wore on.

Craig Molloy did have a half-chance which was blocked in the 64th minute but it was no surprise when the visitors increased their lead with fifteen minutes remaining.

De Vita picked up a pass from Keighan Jacobs at the edge of the box before drilling home a terrific right-foot drive which gave Nelson no chance.

City were well beaten although Ewan Moyes did score a consolation goal right on the final whistle.
