Match Report - By John Hoey
Brechin City remain at the top of the Second Division after a highly impressive 3-1 victory against East Fife at Bayview Stadium.
David McKenna with a brace and Craig Molloy were on the mark for City after a Scott Durie goal had given East Fife an early lead.
Jim Weir kept faith with the side that won against Peterhead and with Charlie King out for the season and Barry Smith having left to manage Dundee, there were places on the bench for the remaining members of the squad.
City had a chance after only two minutes when Rory McAllister collected a pass from Craig Molloy at the edge of the box and fired in a right-foot shot which Michael Brown in the East Fife goal did well to save.
It was the Fifers though who got their noses in front after 14 minutes.
Scott Durie picked up the ball on the right side of the City penalty-box and drilled in a shot which took a deflection on its way into the City net leaving goalkeeper Craig Nelson stranded.
The hosts won a free-kick at the edge of the City penalty-box after 24 minutes after Steven Hislop was brought down but Rober Sloan sent the kick well over the bar.
City were fighting hard to get back into the game, and David McKenna had a shot blocked in 32 minutes and a couple of minutes later the striker was badly out of luck when he volleyed a Neil Janczyk corner against the base of the post.
Paul McLean did really well just four minutes later when his 25 yard drive was inches over the target but City's efforts got their reward four minutes before the break.
A pass was played out wide to Jamie Redman at the edge of the East Fife box who headed the ball back across the box to McAllister who in turn played in Craig Molloy who wasted no time in hammering the ball into the roof of the net.
City started the second-half on the offensive, and Molloy sent a header just past the post four minutes into the half.
City were well on top and they deservedly grabbed the lead in the 56th minute when McAllister crossed into the box for McKenna who coolly headed the ball past Michael Brown.
McAllister nearly made it three a couple of minutes later when his right-foot drive was well saved by Brown, but the third goal wasn't long delayed and it came in the 63rd minute when in an almost carbon copy of the second goal, McAllister crossed into the box for McKenna who had little difficulty in headeing the ball past Brown.
The Fifers hit back immediately, and a Bobby Linn free-kick was tipped over the bar by Nelson.
McAllister had a great chance to make it four in the 69th minute when he was left unmarked in front of goal but he steered his shot past the post.
