BRECHIN City narrowed the gap over Livingston at the top of the Second Division after a hard-fought but deserved 1-0 victory at Glebe Park.

Craig Molloy scored the vital goal with just five remaining to keep the title race wide open.

Livingston had the first chance of the match after 22 minutes when Gary Fusco lost possession to Kenny Deuchar on the left touchline.

The big forward then delivered a cross into the penalty box for Liam Fox who completely fluffed his shot.

The ball then broke for Iain Russell who fired high over the bar.

Livi had a half-chance just four minutes later when the ball fell kindly for Kyle Jacobs at the edge of the box whose shot was tipped over the bar by City keeper Craig Nelson. The visitors had a further couple of half-chances in the closing minutes of the first-half when Jacobs and then Fox had 20 yard shots which were wide of the target.

City had much more possession in the opening stages of the second-half and they came close to opening the scoring in the 62nd minute when Rory McAllister broke free of the Livi defence and fired in a diagonal shot which was well wide of the target.

McAllister came close in the 78th minute when he beat Chris Malone at the edge of the box and blasted in a shot which was just wide of the target.

However City scored the vital goal they thoroughly deserved with five minutes remaining when McAllister played a good pass to Molloy who took a couple of steps before unleashing a great shot which Tony Bullock in the Livi goal was helpless to stop.
