City opened the scoring with a well worked goal after only eight minutes.

Craig Molloy's long pass was picked up by Rory McAllister wide on the right and when he crossed into the box, Kevin Byers was on hand to head high into the top corner of the net.

The Sons though took just three minutes to grab the equaliser.

Mark Gilhaney sent a good pass beyond the City defence which was picked up by Jon McShane who took a couple of steps before firing a low drive past Craig Nelson.

Grindlay came to the Sons rescue when he saved good efforts from Molloy and David McKenna in the 19th and 21st minutes respectively and at the other end McShane fired past Nelson's left hand post with just six minutes of the half remaining.

In the second-half, both teams pushed forward in an effort to grab the initiative and City came close in the 59th minute when Grindlay did well to save from Andrew Cook but they did make the breakthrough just five minutes later when Byers fired home after his first shot had been blocked.

The Sons though dramatically drew level for the second time just a couple of minutes later when Pat Walker slotted the ball home from close-range.

City though didn't take this lying down and McAllister restored their lead three minutes later when he blasted a magnificent right-foot drive into the top corner of the net.

This dramatic game wasn't over however, and McShane slotted home his second and Dumbarton's third goal with just a couple of minutes left.
