Ayr United 0 Brechin City 1

Match Report - By Keith Johnston

Match report from the Daily Record:

"BRECHIN boss Ian Campbell admitted he got lucky after Graeme Gibson grabbed a late winner to take them to the brink of promotion. The substitute pounced on a loose ball in the 84th minute to leave Ayr gutted. The result put City nine points clear at the top but the Somerset Park side are in danger of being dragged into the relegation scrap.

"Campbell said: 'We've played better and lost. All credit to Ayr who played with a lot of spirit but we ground out the win.'

"Home boss Robert Connor said: 'We were robbed - all the boys put so much into the game.'

"Ayr keeper Ludovic Roy aggravated a hamstring strain in the warm-up and John Hillcoat took over. And after six minutes they lost striker Gareth Wardlaw to a knee injury.

"Brechin had two great chances early in the second half but Grant Johnson fired over from close range and Paul Ritchie had a drive blocked on the line.

"Stuart Boyd and Stuart McGrady went close for Ayr but Gibson had the final say."
