Match Report - By John Hoey
Two late goals, from Mark Roberts in the 77th minute and Michael Moffat a couple of minutes before the end put paid to City's First Division dreams for this season.
Although City had gone in at the interval 1-0 up when Jonathan Tiffoney's pass-back went into his own net, Ayr had more possession and pressure after the break and the City defence which had been excellent throughout were unable to stop the Honest Men clinching victory and a place in the First Division next season.
When the dust has settled and the bitter disappoinment of failing to get promotion has eased off, the supporters can take a great deal of encouragement from the fact that City under Jim Weir and Kevin McGowne in their first season at the club have made a great deal of progress. There are a great many positives to be taken from the campaign as a whole and after the players and management have had a well-deserved summer break the supporters can look forward to the new season with a great deal of optimism and anticipation.
