Match Report - By John Hoey
Dundee just edged out Brechin City in an entertaining friendly at Glebe Park last night.
The visitors had the first scoring opportunity after 20 minutes when Jamie McLuskey played a neat one-two with Gary Irvine and was on hand to collect the return pass but he fired his shot well over the bar.
However, Dundee grabbed the lead with a well taken goal in the 34th minute.
Ryan Conroy delivered a good corner from the right into the City box and Neil McGregor was first to the ball to power a downwards header past Craig Nelson.
Jake Hyde should have doubled Dundee's lead seven minutes into the second-half when he was clean through on goal but he blasted wide from good position.
David McKenna was unlucky not to equalise for City in the 61st minute when Paul McLean slipped the ball to him in the Dundee box but McGregor stuck out a leg to divert his shot for a corner and John Gibson brought off a great save to deny Derek Carcary just a minute later.
The Dark Blues hit back and Graham Webster sent a screamer just over the City bar in the 63rd minute.
As the half wore on City were pushing forward in an effort to grab the equaliser but the Dark Blues defence were holding firm.
Dundee then began to gain the upper hand and they sealed victory with a second goal in the 82nd minute when McLuskey crossed from the right for McKeown, whose first-time volley gave sub goalkeeper David Scott no chance.
Derek Carcary scored a late consolation for City in the final minute when he raced onto a through ball to steer the ball home.
