Brechin City more than made up for last week's disappointments by thumping East Fife by 6-0 at Glebe Park.
Goals from Derek Carcary (2)' Andy Jackson (2), Paul McLean and Ryan Fergsuon wrapped up the points for City who now sit eight points clear of nearest rivals Arbroath with three games in hand against their Angus neighbours.
East Fife on the other hand now face a stern fight along with Albion Rovers and Stranraer to avoid the prospect of relegation and manager Billy Brown would have been furious with his side's defending after they lost four goals in the first-half and another two after the break.
Carcary got his side off to the perfect start after just eight minutes when he swept home an Alex Pursehouse cross and City doubled their lead seven minutes later when another Pursehouse cross was finished off by Jackson.
City were piling on the pressure and they went three goals up three minutes later with Pursehouse again the creator when he delivered an inch-perfect cross from the right straight to the far post where full-back Paul McLean bulleted in a header.
City were firing on all cylinders and the Fifers were struggling to make any sort of impact and they fell further behind on the half-hour mark when Carcary scored his second goal of the evening and City's fourth when he collected a pass from Alan Trouten before firing home a left-foot drive into the bottom corner of the net.
Any hopes the visitors had of reducing the deficit were dealt a body-blow within just a couple of minutes of the restart when City made it 5-0.
Graham Hay picked up the ball on the left side of the penalty area and crossed into the box for Jackson who scored his second goal and City's fifth, toe-poking the ball home from around two yards out.
City still weren't finished and they scored the final goal of the evening against their demoralised opponents when Trouten played a good ball through to Ryan Ferguson and the on-loan Dundee United youngster kept his composure before slotting the ball past Brown
