Brechin City 1 Ayr United 1

Brechin City and Ayr United shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Glebe Park this afternoon.

City started brightly and had by far the majority of pressure and possession in the opening stages and they had a stonewall penalty turned down by referee Alan Muir in the 20th minute when Alan Trouten was clearly impeded in the penalty-box right in front of Mr Muir but to the consternation of the City players and supporters the referee waved play on.

Ayr gradually began to exert some pressure on the home defence and they grabbed the opening goal just a couple of minutes before the break.

With the ball bobbling around in front of the home penalty area, the Honest Men's Anthony Marenghi was first to react firing home a superb left-foot drive which gave Graeme Smith in the City goal no chance.

City pushed forward after the break but when it seemed as if they would never grab the equaliser, they levelled the scoring with a great opportunist goal from Andy Jackson in the 73rd minute.

Younger brother Steven picked up the ball wide on the right touch line and delivered a great cross into the box for Jacko whose header sailed past David Hutton in the Ayr goal

Jacko was extremely unlucky not to grab the winner with five minutes remaining when he blasted in a superb cross from Trouten only to see Hutton bring off a point-blank save to deny him.
