Brechin City 0 Stenhousemuir 1

Match Report - By John Hoey

A goal eight minutes before half-time from ex City midfielder Bryan Hodge, secured the points for Stenhousemuir in an entertaining game at Glebe Park this afternoon.

City, playing some great football in the opening stages created a number of goal-scoring opportunities with Andy Jackson coming close after just nine minutes only to be denied by Chris Smith in the Warriors goal. Ryan Donnelly actually had the ball in the net seconds later but was ruled offside and the same player was desperately unlucky in the 20th minute when he showed great movement to wheel around and fire in a tremendous left-foot drive which unfortunately came crashing back off the post.

City were left to rue those missed opportunities eight minutes before the break when former City midfielder Hodge, picked up a defensive clearance before firing a low drive into Calum Antell's bottom left-hand corner.

City tried hard to get back into the game in the second-half and they were rewarded for their efforts when they were awarded a penalty in the 64th minute after Alan Trouten was upended in the box by Sean Lynch.

'Trouts' stepped up to take the spot-kick but unfortunately Smith in the Warriors goal guessed correctly and dived to his right to save the penalty.

City continued to exert pressure on the visitors defence but to no avail and it was Stenny who came closest to scoring again nine minutes before the end when a header from substitute John Gemmell was scooped off the goal-line by Antell.
