Brechin City were defeated by 3-1 against a very impressive Stranraer side at Glebe Park this afternoon.

All of the damage came in the opening 45 minutes when the Blues leapt into a 3-0 lead with striker Martin Grehan netting a hat-trick.

His first goal came after 26 minutes when a great run from winger Andy Stirling ended with him crossing into the box for Grehan who tapped the ball into the empty net and it was 2-0 eight minutes later when Grehan netted from the penalty-spot after Stirling had been brought down in the penalty-box by Paul McLean. The best goal of the three came five minutes before the break when Grant Gallagher knocked a long pass into the path of Grehan who blasted a scorcher into the top corner of the net, giving Graeme Smith in the City goal absolutely no chance.

City made changes at the interval with Ryan Ferguson and Darren Petrie being replaced by Johnny Brown and Craig Molloy and they gave themselves a very slight life-line when they pulled a goal back in the 59th minute when Andy Jackson collected a short pass from Robert Thomson and slotted the ball home. However, their task became extremely difficult with Paul McLean's ordering-off for a second bookable offence after a tackle on the hugely impressive Stirling and the Blues held on for a deserved victory.
