Brechin City brought their season to an end with a disappointing 3-1 defeat from Stenhousemuir.
It was a below-par and insipid performance from City who never really got going
in game which the Warriors deserved to win.
Scott Booth's men took the lead from the penalty-spot in the 13th minute when John Gemmell, so often a thorn in City's flesh over the years, converted after a Darren Smith shot had hit Garry Kenneth on the elbow, It was a particularly harsh award from referee Greg Aitken as there seemed absolutely no intention to handle the ball but the visitors took advantage and dictated the rest of the half.
City though grabbed the equaliser six minutes into the second-half when Alan Trouten converted from the penalty-spot after Andy Jackson had been upended in the box by Stenny keeper Wallace Smith who was duly sent off by referee Aitken for his last-man challenge.
However, it was the visitors who grabbed the imitative and they regained the lead on the hour mark with incredibly, another penalty. There seemed little danger as Ben Greenhalgh collected a pass in the City box but Kenneth put in a rash challenge and the ref immediately pointed to the spot before sending the City defender for an early bath. Nine minutes later, and it was all over for City as Greenhalgh took advantage of slack defending to tap the ball into the net.
