Brechin City picked up their first win of the season with a 1-0 home victory against Stenhousemuir at Glebe Park.
It was a deserved victory for City and although the Warriors put them under a fair degree of pressure in the closing stages of the match, the number of opportunities that Ray McKinnon's men created throughout the 90 minutes made them worthy of the win, their first against Stenny in five games.
The only goal of the game came a couple of minutes before half-time when Trouten scored what proved to be the winner, expertly lobbing Greg Fleming in the Stenny goal.
There was a major surprise for the home support prior to kick-off when it was announced that Alan Trouten who missed last week's match against Dunfermline and who had been considered extremely doubtful before the match, was in City's starting line-up, replacing Gary Fusco who was on the bench.
Play during the opening 45 minutes was scrappy with both sides finding g it difficult to find any sort of rhythm. City though had a chance in the 13th minute when Andy Jackson delivered a good pass into the box for Trouten but Stenny keeper Fleming was quickly off his line and the danger was averted.
The hosts hit back seven minutes later when a free-kick on the left was flighted into the City penalty area by Colin McMenamin straight to Alan Lithgow at the far side of the box but he headed into the side-netting.
City went on the attack again five minutes later with Fleming being called into action to block a close-range drive from Colin Hamilton.
In the 42nd minute, Trouten fired a long-range shot over the bar but there was better luck for the midfielder just a minute later when he grabbed the opener.
City won a free-kick deep into the Stenny half and with the visitors rearguard still getting into position, Carig Molloy played a quick pass forward to 'Trouts' who kept his composure to deftly lob Fleming, steering the ball into the top corner of the net.
City started the second-half pushing forward and a great move almost brought goal number two a couple of minutes into the half. Ryan Ferguson played a good pass to Robert Thomson and he moved quickly to the bye-line before sending over an inch-perfect cross into the box for Jackson whose header was instinctively parried for a corner by Fleming.
The Warriors hit back and a McMenamin cross was volleyed well over the bar by Ryan Miller.
Graeme Smith then came to City's rescue in the 58th minute when he brought off a wonderful stop to prevent Martin Grehan from equalising and the keeper was called into action again four minutes later when he did well to block a drive from Sean Dickson.
With play swinging from end to end it looked as if City would have to settle for a share of the spoils after Stenny were dramatically awarded a penalty with just eleven minutes remaining after Paul McLean had impeded McMenamin in the box but Smith again brought off a wonderful save from Grehan's spot-kick to ensure that all three points remained at Glebe Park.
