Match Report - By John Hoey
Brechin City fought back from two goals down to rescue a vital league point in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Airdrieonians.
Former City striker Jim Lister grabbed the opener after 12 minutes when he glanced a David Ferguson cross past Graeme Smith but City fought back and Lewis Spence fired home the equaliser on his home debut eleven minutes later.
However, the Diamonds regained the advantage in the 42nd minute when centre-back Sean Crighton was on hand to prod home an Adam Brown free-kick and the same player was on the spot again just a couple of minutes later when he rose above the home defence to power home a header.
City fought back immediately the second-half began with Robert Thomson heading home a Willie Dyer cross within five minutes and the team battled on with player-boss Darren Dods nodding home a dramatic equaliser with ten minutes left on the clock.
City started the game really well with visiting keeper Rohan Ferguson being called into action within the first couple of minutes when he brought off a great save to deny David Weatherston grabbing the opening goal and although City continued to have the upper hand in those opening exchanges, they were shocked when the Diamonds opened the scoring against the run of play after twelve minutes with former City striker Jim Lister who always proves to be a handful when playing against his old club, grabbed the opening goal.
Full-back David Ferguson completed a good run on the right touchline by delivering a good cross into the box for Lister who got away from his marker to glance a great header into the bottom corner of the net.
City battled on however, and they levelled the match in the 23rd minute. Gary Fusco played a short pass to new loan signing Lewis Spence who forced his way forward into the opposition penalty-box before firing in a cracking drive which took a slight deflection on its way into the net.
Both sides then had spells of pressure but City were again shocked when the Diamonds scored two goals in quick succession shortly before the break to go in at the interval with a two-goal lead.
In the 42nd minute, they won a free-kick on the left and Sean Crighton was first to react in the box when he poked home an Adam Brown free-kick and the same player was on target again just a couple of minutes later when he rose above the home defence to bullet home a header.
Down 3-1 at the interval, City had a mountain to climb in the second-half but they grabbed the initiative straight from the restart and reduced the deficit within five minutes.
Willie Dyer picked up the ball on the left and pushed forward before delivering a great cross into the box for Robert Thomson who dived low to lower a header past Ferguson who had absolutely no chance.
City continued to press the Diamonds defence and they got their reward with ten minutes remaining when player-boss Darren Dods powered home a header to ensure his side a well deserved point.
