Brechin City went down to a 4-2 defeat up at Elgin in their second competitive match of the season.

Elgin got off to the perfect start when Craig Gunn fired them ahead after ten minutes but a Willie Dyer free-kick in the 29th minute levelled matters. City then had the bulk of pressure and possession up until the stroke of half-time when Gunn converted from the penalty spot after Chris O'Neil was adjudged to have pulled the shirt of Chris McLeish in the penalty-box.

City were never really at the races in a disappointing second-half with Daniel Moore extending Elgin's lead on the hour mark and the hosts went further ahead six minutes later when Darryl McHardy headed past Graeme Smith.

Alan Trouten pulled a goal back from the penalty-spot three minutes later but it was too little too late from the visitors with Elgin running out deserved winners.
