Brechin City went down to their fourth successive defeat after Albion Rovers won 2-1 in last night's rearranged league game at Glebe Park.
City deservedly grabbed the lead in the 24th minute when Rovers keeper Ross Stewart fumbled a Willie Dyer cross but the visitors equalised five minutes before the break when Ross C. Stewart was on hand to power a header past Graeme Smith and they grabbed the lead in the 69th minute when Stewart slotted home from around 15 yards.
City stormed forward in the closing stages of the game but some great goalkeeping, the woodwork and sheer bad luck prevented them taking a deserved share of the spoils.
City boss Darren Dods handed starting places to Alan Trouten, Finn Graham and Andy Jackson who have all been out of action recently.
City started well and they grabbed the opener in the 24th minute after a disastrous mistake by Rovers keeper Ross Stewart. The keeper seemed to have a cross from City full-back Willie Dyer well covered but he inexplicably palmed the ball into his own net under no pressure.
Rovers hit back and Steven Boyd was unlucky to see what looked like a net-bound effort blocked by Darren McCormack but the visitors had better luck five minutes before the break when Ross Gilmour's cross from the right was headed past Graeme Smith by Stewart
Both sides pushed forward after the break and Stewart redeemed himself for his earlier mistake in the 63rd minute when he brought off a point-blank save to deny Robbie Buchanan.
However, Rovers made the vital breakthrough in the 69th minute when Stewart hit his second goal of the evening drilling a low drive past Smith from just within the penalty-box.
City stormed back and Stewart tipped a Jackson shot against the bar with eight minutes remaining and only some frantic defending from the visitors in the closing stages prevented City from grabbing the equaliser.
