Match Report - By Brechin City FC
Brechin City’s pre-season preparations concluded with a friendly against Premiership Dundee in a game which entertained a crowd of over 900.
The home side competed well against their full-time opponents whose line-up included a couple of faces familiar to City fans – namely former loanees Craig Wighton and Lewis Spence.
Indeed it was the impressive CRAIG WIGHTON who gave the visitors the lead after 13 minutes with an easy tap-in following a cross from the right which ‘Buzz’ could only get fingertips to.
Wighton was in the action soon afterwards when a delicious first touch in the penalty area created a shooting chance, but his effort went wide of the target. His team mates would go on to celebrate a second goal soon after, as a surging run into the box by PAUL McGOWAN took several ricochets before somehow being bundled into the net.
A feature of the second half was seeing City’s shape and workrate being tested to the full as Dundee enjoyed prolonged periods of possession. Also pleasing from a City viewpoint was the ability to defend an onslaught of cross balls and not concede further.
With 20 minutes remaining, fans saw the unusual sight of Dundee making no fewer than 8 substitutions at one time – with the Glebe Park PA Announcer opting out of that particular challenge.
All in all, a satisfactory evening for Manager Darren Dods and his coaching team – with the competitive action kicking off on Saturday with the opening Betfred Cup Group A tie away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
