Press Release from Brechin City FC:
“Over the Hill and Farfir Away”
Brechin City Sponsored Walk Fundraising Event
Brechin City fans have been asked to support a new fund raising event in support of their club. Originally scheduled as a January trek to Forfar in advance of the New Year Angus derby, the “Over the Hill and Farfir Away” sponsored walk has been re-scheduled to take place in April.
Speaking on behalf of The Club’s Management Committee, Grant Hood explained, “This idea was first brought to life early in the season when new ideas were sought to refresh the Club’s fundraising activities. Whilst the players proudly wear the logo of Club Charity Cancer Research UK on their home strips, we looked for a way to promote the link to the Active Nation brand which is displayed on the away strips. A sponsored walk seemed an ideal fit as an appropriate event to do this, encouraging supporters of the club to embrace the Active Nation programme, as well as support their Club.”
Active Nation is a public engagement programme designed to inspire the people of Scotland to be more active in their everyday lives in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games and beyond.
Grant continued “The walk will now take place on Saturday April 23, and will be the reverse of the journey originally planned. Volunteers will depart from Station Park in Forfar at 8am and walk back to Brechin via the B9134 road through Aberlemno. The departure time has been chosen to ensure volunteers are back in Brechin well in advance of kick-off time.”
The event is open to all supporters, although under-16’s must be accompanied by a parent. “The Club is keen to stress that this is not a Committee-only event, as there seemed to be some confusion over this in the lead-up to the January event,” added Grant. “The Club will make a donation to Cancer Research UK from the funds raised through this event. Unsurprisingly, there’s a real feel-good factor around The Club at present, and hopefully this will encourage City fans to volunteer for this event”
Volunteers should e-mail ghood@brechincityfc.com or call the Brechin City Commercial Line on 07817 910548 to register for the event, and receive their sponsor forms.
