Manny knocks back Jags! - By Steve Mitchell

MANNY PANTHER has knocked back a new one-year deal at Partick Thistle to start a fresh elsewhere.

Panther was loaned out to Brechin during the transfer window by Jags boss Dick Campbell.
After making eight appearances for the City, Jags boss Campbell offered the 21-year-old the chance to resurrect his Firhill career with a new one year deal.

However, Panther has decided if he wants to progress it must be away from Partick.
He said: "I feel that I need a move to start things afresh and pick up some momentum again.
"Obviously Dick Campbell offered me a new deal, but that meant I had to prove myself all over again. I think it will be easier to do that elsewhere."
Panther played his last game for Thistle on November 20, in the 2-0 defeat at Queen of the South.
Yet his four-goal midfield haul meant he remained top scorer for the term in the Jags boiler room.
Panther plainly believes that his extra firepower could have made a difference in the Jags doomed relegation battle.
He fired: "I was very frustrated I didn't get the chance to stay on at Thistle for the whole term.
"The bottom line is that although I played my last game for them in November, I remained their highest scoring midfielder.
"That's a statistic that I am both proud of and causes me a lot of frustration. Dick Campbell has already signed another midfielder in Jimmy Gibson and that only means I am further down the pecking order. But I still believe we lacked goals from midfield in the second half of the season. I could have supplied them if given the chance."
Now Panther is set to turn his attention South of the Border as he bids to resurrect his career.
He admitted: "My agent Mark Donnachie has made me aware of some first division interest, but I think it might be the time to take a gamble.
"I fancy trying my luck in England and it could be that I will go down south on trial next month.
"As a Maryhill boy it saddens me to leave Thistle. But there comes a stage in your career when you have got to try something new.
"I need to be playing regularly now. I have to accept if I want to do that it must be away from Thistle."
However, Panther admits that there was a silver lining to a season that failed to build on a promising start.
He said: "When I was loaned out to Brechin, I played in eight games for them. That meant that I got a Second Division championship-winning medal.
"It was nice to end the season with something to show for my efforts.
"But I would gladly have traded the medal in if I had been able to play a part in keeping Thistle up."
