Steve Mitchell RIP - By Brechin City FC

It is with great sadness, that the Club announces the passing of former committee member Steve Mitchell. Steve passed away early Sunday morning having watched the City beat Cowdenbeath on Saturday and witnessed his other team of Manchester United secure the Premiership title in England.

Our condolences and support go out to Steve’s wife Kymm, Lauren, Ashley, Carly, Ellie, Glen and Charlie, family and friends. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Chairman Ken Ferguson said ‘Steve contributed so much to the successes at the Club starting off as a season ticket holder and the match programme editor before joining the committee and taking responsibility for match arrangements and hospitality and sponsorship sales. He was one of our most ardent fans who continued to support the Club after coming off the committee through his profession as the local journalist at the Brechin Advertiser. The press ranks at Glebe Park and the Club as a whole have lost a good man, a great friend too many, a true and loyal supporter. He will be greatly missed.

Vice Chairman Martin Smith said ‘I was shattered when I heard the news of Stevie’s death on Sunday morning and to be honest I’m still having trouble coming to terms with it. He will be missed on so many levels, reporter, Brechin City supporter, father and husband. In particular I will miss the regular Sunday afternoon phone calls where we would analyse and dissect the previous days football results and then basically put the world to rights. He has been taken far too early and he still had so much to offer the town of Brechin and it’s citizens.”

Secretary Angus Fairlie said ‘Like everyone else I am stunned by this news. Steve was a great friend to me and to the Club. Match day will not be the same without him badgering me for the team sheet. He still had so much left to give and 42 is far too young for him to be taken. My thoughts at this difficult time are with Kymm and his family”
