MATCH PREVIEW

City players will be keen to get back into action after an enforced two-week lay-off due to the postponements of home games against Stenhousemuir and Arbroath.

The good news for Brechin supporters is that the two-week break means that manager Jim Weir has virtually a full squad from which to choose his starting eleven with long-term injury victim Derek Carcary the only absentee. Gerry McGlauchlan who was considered doubtful before the postponement of last Saturday’s Angus derby has recovered and will come back into consideration for a place in the side as will new loan signings Roddy McKenzie and Johnny Lindsay.

East Fife boss John Robertson welcomes back defender Darren McCormack after a period of suspension, but there will be late checks on Scott Durie, David Muir, Bobby Linn and Ryan Wallace.

Games between the two sides are invariably close with a 1-1 draw the outcome at New Bayview in mid-September when a second-half goal from Jim Lister cancelled out Ryan Wallace’s 8th minute opener and it was the Fifers who came up trumps in November at Glebe Park when two first-half goals from Bobby Linn and Robert Ogleby ensured victory for John Robertson’s men.

Brechin will be desperate to record their first victory of the season over the Fifers on Saturday with striker and top scorer Paul McManus keen to put one over his old mates whilst the ex- City contingent of David White, Darren Smith, Andrew Cook and Neil Janczyk will have similar thoughts from an East Fife point of view.

Victory for City would see them leapfrog the Fifers in the Second Division table and every Brechin supporter will be hoping that that will be the outcome come quarter to five on Saturday night.
