MATCH PREVIEW
Fingers are firmly crossed that City fans will at last be able to see their team in action after a lengthy three-week lay-off due to the arctic weather conditions.
Airdrie United come calling at the Glebe tomorrow and prospects of the game going ahead are a lot more hopeful than they were just a couple of days ago. At that time, the playing surface was very icy in places, but the ice has now melted although the pitch remains quite hard. However, weather conditions for the rest of the day, overnight and tomorrow appear to be quite favourable and we can only hope that the thaw continues and allows the game to get the go-ahead. As a precaution, the club have provisionally arranged an inspection at 11.30am but the hope is that this will not be required. Supporters should log onto this website tomorrow morning for the latest news.
City boss Jim Weir is expected to have a full squad at his disposal with the exception of Derek Carcary and home fans will be hoping to get a glimpse of new loan signings Rory McKenzie from Kimarnock and Partick Thistle’s Johnny Lindsay but the manager is keeping his team firmly under wraps until nearer kick-off time tomorrow.
Diamonds counterpart Jimmy Boyle has no injury worries and expects to field his full-strength team.
The teams have met twice already this season with the first game at Glebe Park ending in a 1-1 draw after a Charlie King penalty six minutes after the break cancelled out Ryan Donnelly’s 14th minute opener.
City had the upper hand at the Excelsior Stadium in December when Jim Lister, Paul McManus and David McKenna all found the net in a fine 3-2 win with danger-man Donnelly again netting both Airdrie goals.
So the stage is set for what promises to be an exciting game and we can only hope that City repeat the form that saw them win at Excelsior just a couple of months ago.
