BRECHIN CITY – BONNYRIGG ROSE PREVIEW
Brechin City manager Ray McKinnon has no injury worries ahead of tomorrow’s 3rd round William Hill Scottish Cup clash against Bonnyrigg Rose at Glebe Park but unfortunately, centre-back Gerry McGlauchlan will miss the game because of suspension.
Ray has a number of options he can use to compensate for big Gerry’s absence including the possible inclusion of new loan signing Graham Hay from Lochee United, but we will just have to wait and see what the starting line-up is
The manager will be hoping that his players can turn on a repeat of the form which saw them blast seven goals past Stenhousemuir last Saturday but no-one at the club will be underestimating the East Super League champions who are reckoning on bringing up to six hundred supporters through to Brechin as they attempt to bring off a shock result against in-form City.
The hosts will be hoping to do a bit better than last year when they went out in the 4th round to St Johnstone.
Goals from Craig Molloy, Charlie King and Paul McManus saw City ease past Dumbarton in the 3rd round tie at Glebe Park on 18th November but unfortunately they went out at the next stage of the tournament against Saints at MacDiarmid Park. Murray Davidson had given the hosts an early lead but City fought back to level the match through Paul McManus before Francisco Sandaza scored the winner early in the second-half.
The winners of Saturday’s clash automatically receive £8000 as a reward for reaching the next round of the tournament where there is always the prospect of drawing a big name, so financially, there is a lot at stake for both clubs.
The Match Referee on Saturday will be Andrew Dallas who hasn’t, according to the records, refereed a City match before. His assistants will be Gordon Middleton and Gordon Crawford.
The Match Sponsor on Saturday is William Hill Bookmakers who are sponsors of the Scottish Cup while the Match Ball will be sponsored by Power Washing Services, Northwaterbridge.
