Alloa v Brechin Match Preview - By John Hoey

ALLOA ATHLETIC V BRECHIN CITY MATCH PREVIEW

Brechin will head to Recreation Park tomorrow in a confident frame of mind after the 6-0 trouncing of Bonnyrigg Rose in the 3rd round Scottish Cup replay last Saturday but they know that they will face a very difficult task in trying to overcome the Wasps who currently sit in second place in the Second Division table, six points ahead of third-placed Forfar.

The two sides have met only once this season, at Glebe Park on 1st September when the visitors ran out comfortable 3-1 winners.
Andy Jackson had opened the scoring for City in the 51st minute, but Paul Hartley’s men hit back and goals from Robert Thomson, Kevin Cawley and Martin Grehan wrapped up a comfortable victory.

City have scored eighteen goals in their last four games, conceding only four during the same period and manager Ray McKinnon will be hoping that the players keep that going tomorrow. One of the most pleasing aspects over the past month is that several players have been hitting the target with goals coming from all areas of the team and the manager will obviously want to see that continue.

Alloa bounced back last Saturday from their 7-0 Scottish Cup drubbing at Ibrox with a deserved 1-0 victory against East Fife at Bayview, Derek Holmes, scoring the only goal of the match.

Brechin will be at full strength for tomorrow’s match while Wasps boss Paul Hartley will be without defender Michael Doyle.

The match will be handled by Paul Robertson who has refereed City twice already this season against East Fife and Ayr United.

In the 2-1 victory over East Fife, he booked City’s Johnny Brown and David Muir and Gareth Wardlaw for the visitors and in the 3-0 defeat at Ayr which was Jim Weir’s last game in charge of City, he sent off Ayr’s Austin McCann early in the first-half and booked City’s Kurtis Byrne and David McKenna.
