Brechin City FC
The Glebe Park flag will fly at half mast and a minutes silence will be held prior to the start of tomorrows local derby with Arbroath in recognition of the passing of former Groundsman Alex Laing.
Sye was employed as groundsman in 1995, taking over from Fred Thomson who retired. He had assisted Fred with various jobs for a couple of seasons beforehand. Sye retired from the Glebe in June 2006.
Sye was a avid supporter and began following the “City” after completing his national service in 1954. He started taking his family to the Glebe from 1980 onwards.
His favourite player was Ian “Pink” Campbell and his favourite manager was Ian Fleming. His greatest moment was watching Brechin City lift the 2nd Division title in May 1983.
Chairman Ken Ferguson said 'We are saddended to hear of the passing of Sye Laing, Sye gave 11 years of loyal service to the Club during which time he not only kept the playing surface up to scratch but also tended to the famous Glebe Park hedge, Sye took a great deal of pride in Glebe Park's appearance ensuring the pitch and surrounds were always well maintained. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to Flo and family at this sad time.'
