Last Season's Matches Between The Sides
The clubs met four times last season with two wins for the Diamonds, one win for City and one draw. In the first match between the sides on 5th October at Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie ran out 3-1 winners with Martin Hardie and Liam Coogans giving the hosts a 2-0 lead with Andy Jackson pulling a goal back for City shortly before half-time. However, a goal right at the death from Lewis Coult wrapped up an Airdrie victory. It was a reversal in fortunes when the sides met again at Glebe Park on Tuesday 7th December with the hosts winning 4-3. Goals from Alan Trouten and Ryan Donnelly put City 2-0 up with Andy Jackson adding a third goal in the 57th minute. However, the visitors fought back and reduced the deficit to 3-2 with Jim Lister and Lewis Coult on the mark and they incredibly drew level in the very last minute through Nathan Blockley only for another Trouten goal deep into injury-time giving a relieved City side victory.
In the second-half of that season, the next game produced a 2-1 Airdrie victory at Excelsior Stadium with Robert Thomson opening the scoring for the visitors after quarter of an hour only for the Diamonds to equalise three minutes later with Ross Gilmour on the mark and a goal from Gregor Buchanan right at the end sealed a home victory. The final game between the sides on 12th April produced the only draw with that man Lister giving the visitors a 1-0 half-time lead with Craig Molloy rescuing a point for City with a 52nd minute goal.
