Stranraer - Brechin City Match Preview
Brechin City will embark on the long 380 mile round trip to Stair Park tomorrow morning to face League One leaders Stranraer in what will be undoubtedly the division's game of the day.
Both sides are in-form and playing well with City entering the game on the back of an impressive twelve-game unbeaten run while their opponents who are four points ahead of second-placed Morton and eight points in front of City go into the match full of confidence after a comfortable 4-2 victory over Angus neighbours Forfar Athletic last Saturday.
Ray McKinnon and his players are immensely looking forward to the match with the City boss reporting no injury concerns following on from last Saturday's 2-1 home victory over Ayr United with long-term injury victim Callum Tapping still unavailable although his road back to fitness is progressing well.
Blues boss Stephen Aitken will be without the suspended Jackson Longridge while fellow defender Scott Robertson misses out through injury.
The sides have met twice already this season with a draw and a Blues win the outcomes. On 23rd August at Stair Park, the sides shared four goals. City had grabbed an early 2-0 lead with goals from Colin Hamilton and Craig Molloy but the hosts hit back shortly after half-time when Adam Forde reduced the deficit and they grabbed the equaliser in the final minute of the game when Stephen Stirling scored. Stephen Aitken's men went one better at Glebe Park two months later coming out on top by 2-1. Skipper Frank McKeown had headed them in front just on the half-hour mark with Robert Thomson equalising six minutes later. Both sides went all out for the winner after the break and unfortunately for City, it was the visitors who made the vital breakthrough after 73 minutes when Sean Winter headed home what proved to be the winner.
The referee for tomorrow's encounter is experienced whistler Calum Murray who will be in charge of his first City game of the season.
Brechin City Supporters Club are running a bus to the game which will leave St Ninians Square at 9.15am. Anyone interested in obtaining a seat on the bus should contact Steven Stewart on 075475522
