The winner of Brechin City's "Cult Heroes" competition as chosen by Brechin fans from all over the world, will be announced on Saturday's "Football Focus", BBC1 lunchtime.

Voting takes place right up to the show going on air, but www.brechincity.co.uk can reveal that a clear winner is emerging polling more than 75 per cent of the vote.

A spokeswoman for Football focus said: "We would like to thank all the Brechin City fans who took the trouble to take part in the voting and urge them to continuing registering their votes right up until Focus kicks-off.

"We can't reveal the winner yet, but we can tell Brechin fans that it will be worth them watching the show on Saturday, as thanks to a trawl of the BBC mews archive, we have come up with goal scored by a Brechin player from the early eighties that will feature in Saturday's show.

"Be sure to tune in, so that your Cult Hero, gets the recognition he deserves."
