Brechin City - Alloa Athletic Match Preview - By John Hoey

Brechin City - Alloa Athletic Match Preview

Brechin City entertain Alloa at the Glebe tomorrow night in the Scottish Championship Semi-Final First Leg.

City are in the play-offs by virtue of their 4th place finish in League One while Alloa ensured their play-off position courtesy of their emphatic 3-0 victory over now relegated Cowdenbeath at The Indodrill Stadium.

There is no doubt that both sets of players and supporters will be eagerly looking forward to this encounter and both sides will certainly feel confident of making progress to the final to face either Stranraer or Forfar Athletic who compete in the other semi-final tie.

Manager Ray McKinnon will still be without Gerry McLauchlan who remains on the injured list while fellow centre-back Darren McCormack will miss out through suspension following his red card against Stranraer on Saturday. Defender Jason Marr and midfielder Stephen Simmons will be missing for the Wasps while manager Danny Lennon has a major doubt over goalkeeper Craig McDowall.

The last meeting between the sides was in the First Division Play-Offs at the end of the 2012/13 season with the Wasps winning 4-3 on aggregate over the two legs.

In the first leg, played at the Glebe on 8th May, Ryan McCord fired the visitors ahead five minutes before half-time with Kevin Moon adding a second goal early in the second-half with the final result being 2-0 to Alloa.

City turned the tables three days later when they won by 3-2 unfortunately not enough to take them to the final. Andy Jackson scored the opener after just three minutes in that match with Kevin Cawley equalising for the hosts nine minutes before the break. An Alan Trouten penalty-kick, seven minutes into the second-half restored City's advantage only for the home side to draw level again through Calum Elliot after 68 minutes with Jackson netting the final goal of the game for City right on the final whistle.

The referee tomorrow evening will be Brian Colvin assisted by Dougie Potter and Frank Connor with Colin Steven as fourth official.

Mr Colvin has refereed only one City game this season, the 3-0 defeat up at Peterhead on 14th March.

Tomorrow night's match is being sponsored by Delson with Turner & Townsend sponsoring the Match Ball.
