Brechin City - Forfar Athletic Match Preview - By John Hoey

Brechin City - Forfar Athletic Match Preview

Brechin City manager Darren Dods will have a full squad (long-term injury victim Ross Perry excepted) available for the derby match against Forfar Athletic at the Glebe on Saturday January 2nd.

Both clubs will view this game as 'a must win' match and hopefully supporters from both sides will turn up in large numbers to roar their favourites on and add a bit of spice to what is always a keenly anticipated and closely fought encounter.

City presently sit three points behind the Loons and will be determined to draw level with their Angus neighbours in the Ladbrokes League One table while Forfar will see the match as an ideal opportunity to extend the points gap to six. Whatever the outcome, with some seventeen league games still to be played and a maximum of 51 points to play for, there's still a long, long way to go before the season reaches its finale in May.

The teams have met on two occasions this season with the with the score standing at one win apiece.

The Loons came out on top here at the Glebe in the middle of September when a goal ten minutes before the break from Derek Young and a further goal a minute into the second-half from Omar Kader netted the visitors maximum points whilst City repaid the compliment at Station Park at the end of October when an Andy Jackson goal early in the second-half gave City victory.

Incredible as it seems, Forfar's last league victory came in the derby match at the Glebe in September and new manager Gary Bollan will be looking for a repeat from his side on Saturday.

Gary will be without defenders Mark Baxter and Michael Dunlop but Tom O'Brien who has been missing for the last few games has recovered from injury and is included in the squad whilst midfielder Omar Kader who has been abroad on work commitments for the past couple of months was back in training on Wednesday night and will also be available.

The referee for Saturday's match is Kevin Graham who will be in charge of his first City match of the season.

The mascots for the day are brothers Rowan and Struan Shepherd from Alyth. You can read about them, along with a 2-page interview with City striker Dene Shields, in the New Year publication of “A View from the Hedge”, which will be available for sale prior to the match for only £2. It also contains the latest news and views from the Manager, Chairman, and Club captain ‘Tiger’ Molloy – as well as the legendary BCFC Quiz from Martin Smith.

The match is being kindly sponsored by Ferguson Oliver Wealth Management who are welcome visitors to our Boardroom, along with guests representing Club Main Sponsor, Delson. Another main sponsor party is being hosted in the Delson Lounge, and it’s also pleasing to be able to welcome a mixture of Season Ticket Holders and Day guests into a full 1983 Hospitality Lounge.

The ball sponsors for the day are Mark & Bev Carlton and Martin & Sue Aisthorpe, who were first time visitors to Glebe Park a few weeks ago having travelled north from Grimsby to do so.
