Stenhousemuir - Brechin City Match Preview
New signing Lewis Spence looks set to go straight into manager Darren Dod's opening line-up for tomorrow's league clash against Stenhousemuir at Ochilview.
Lewis has impressed the manager in training this week and Darren feels that the power and pace he offers in central midfield will be a decided asset as the team strive to move away from basement position in the table. Saturday will also mark the end of Dene Shields spell with the club before he returns with his family to Malta. The City supporters will no doubt be hoping that the popular striker will end his City career on a high note by getting on the score-sheet but whatever the outcome on Saturday, all City fans will wish Dene and his family all the best as he moves on to pastures new.
Jonathan Tiffoney will sit out tomorrow's match because of suspension but everyone else (Ross Perry excepted) is fit to face the Warriors.
The teams have clashed on two occasions this season with a draw and a Stenny win the outcomes. The teams shared the spoils in the league encounter at Ochilview at the beginning of October. Alan Cook had given his side the lead just after the half-hour but two late second-half goals from Andy Jackson and David Weatherston put the visitors in the driving seat only for the Warriors to grab a point at the last gasp with a strike from Carlos Martinez.
The sides met again at Glebe Park just over a month later with Stenny coming out on top by 2-1. Alan Cook had grabbed the opening goal for the visitors after 31 minutes but a superb strikefrom Isaac Layne in the 71st minute saw City draw level only for the experienced Colin MacMenamin to notch the winner with ten minutes remaining.
The referee for tomorrow's encounter will be Ayrshire based Steven Kirkland who has refereed only one City game this season, the 1-0 home defeat from Albion Rovers on 24th October.
