Stenhousemuir - Brechin City Match Preview
Brechin City will take to the road again tomorrow night when they travel to Ochilview to face Stenhousemuir in a rearranged Ladbrokes League One fixture. Following on from Saturday's disappointing defeat down at Stranraer, manager Darren Dods reports no new injury worries or concerns and the same squad who travelled down to Stair Park will also make the journey to Ochilview with Paul McLean and Ross Perry the only absentees.
While City were going down to defeat at Stranraer, the Warriors match against Ayr United at Somerset Park fell victim to the weather with match official Alan Newlands calling the game off due to the gale force winds.
In addition to the abandoned fixture just over a fortnight ago when a Colin McMenamin goal, seven minutes before the break had fired the Warriors into the lead, the teams had clashed on two occasions this season with a draw and a Stenny win the outcomes. The teams shared the spoils in the league encounter at Ochilview at the beginning of October. Alan Cook had given his side the lead just after the half-hour but two late second-half goals from Andy Jackson and David Weatherston put the visitors in the driving seat only for the Warriors to grab a point at the last gasp with a strike from Carlos Martinez.
The teams met again at Glebe Park just over a month later with Stenny coming out on top by 2-1. Alan Cook had grabbed the opening goal for the visitors after 31 minutes but a superb strikes from Isaac Layne in the 71st minute saw City draw level only for the experienced Colin MacMenamin to notch the winner with ten minutes remaining.
The referee for tomorrow night's encounter will be Ayrshire based Steven Kirkland who has refereed one City game this season, the 1-0 home defeat from Albion Rovers on 24th October although he was also the man in the middle for the abandoned fixture against the Warriors on 16th January.
