Peterhead - Brechin City Match Preview
Brechin City will travel up to Peterhead tomorrow morning with the unenviable task of trying to defeat a high-flying Peterhead team who have gone on an incredible run of sixteen games without defeat. It will certainly be a hugely difficult task for the City players to overcome Jim McInally's men but they will have to put the bitter disappointment of Tuesday night's performance against Albion Rovers very firmly behind them and try their utmost to take something from tomorrow's match. Their task will be made even harder with the news that Andy Jackson who works so tirelessly for the team in every match is struggling to be fit and will face a last-minute fitness test. David Weatherston, who missed the game on Tuesday has also, unfortunately been ruled out.
Tomorrow's encounter will be the third time the sides have met this season with one City win, one Peterhead win and a score-draw the outcomes.
In the first round of the Petrofac Cup, played at the Glebe on 25th July three second-half goals from Jordon Brown (2) and Rory McAllister saw the Blue Toon ease to a comfortable victory but City turned the tables to notch their first league points of the season up at Balmoor Stadium in September when they came out on top in a five-goal thriller. Robert Thomson grabbed the opener for City after just ten minutes but the Blue Toon equalised in the 25th minute through Shane Sutherland. Dene Shields then restored City's lead only for Rory McAllister to level the score-line seven minutes before half-time. City played well in the second-half with Thomson ensuring an away win when he scored with just seven minutes remaining and it was an evenly matched encounter at Glebe Park in March when Leighton McIntosh gave the visitors an early lead only for Robert Thomson to level for City with ten minutes left.
The referee tomorrow will be Gavin Duncan who has been in charge of two City fixtures this season, the 3-1 away defeat from Albion Rovers at the end of August and the 1-1 home draw with tomorrow's opponents in mid December.
