Brechin City - Stirling Albion Match Preview - By John Hoey

Brechin City v Stirling Albion Match Preview.

Brechin City open their account for Season 2016/17 with the visit of Stirling Albion to Glebe Park tomorrow night in the first round group stages of the Betfred Cup.

Betfred assumed the sponsorship of what was the Scottish League Cup at the beginning of the season and new innovative rules have been introduced which means that if any match is level at the end of the ninety minutes, the game will then move to penalties with the winners receiving a bonus point.

A number of the weekend matches went to penalties and it's definitely a novel and unique way to try and bring a bit of added excitement to the competition.

The Binos with former City players Bryan Hodge and Darren Petrie in their ranks, didn't need to take advantage of the new rules on Saturday though with a 1-0 home victory over Championship side Falkirk. By all accounts it was a deserved three points and City will certainly be under no illusions as to the difficulty of their task tomorrow night.

Manager Darren Dods has tried a number of different permutations during the pre-season matches and it will be very interesting to see what starting eleven takes the field.

Paul McLean will miss out tomorrow night although it is hoped he will be available for the trip to Elgin on Saturday, otherwise everyone else is fit and available including Aaron Lynas who has just signed a short-term deal with the club.

The referee will be Kemnay based Graham Beaton who has just been promoted to the Grade One list.

Admission prices at Glebe Park are :-

Adults - £12
Concessions - £6
Schoolchildren - FREE
