Brechin City - Ayr United Match Preview
Brechin City will take a break from League One football as they welcome Ayr United to Glebe Park for tomorrow's William Hill third round Scottish Cup tie.
City have been out of action for a fortnight following the postponement of the Albion Rovers match last weekend but the good news for City fans is that the club's injury situation has eased, albeit very slightly, as they prepare to try and oust the Honest Men from the tournament. Defender Darren McCormack has been declared fit to play and manager Darren Dods is hopeful that midfielders Alan Trouten and Finn Graham may be able to participate after both were rated in the extremely doubtful category last weekend. The bad news for City fans is that skipper Paul McLean is suspended and that both Andy Jackson and Chris O'Neil are still definitely ruled out while midfielder Lewis Spence has returned to Dunfermline after the expiry of his loan deal. On the plus side however is the fact that Hearts have granted permission for striker Robbie Buchanan who signed for the club on a short term emergency loan deal last Friday permission to play.
Ayr manager Ian McCall has selection headaches of his own to contend with. Striker Craig Moore has definitely been ruled out while midfielder Paul Cairney will also join him on the sidelines following his dismissal in the 1-1 draw with Raith Rovers on Tuesday night. Jamie Adams, Ross Docherty and Brian Gilmour also missed the trip to Starks Park through injury although the Ayr gaffer is hopeful that all three will be fit to face City.
While City have been in contention at the top end of the League One table since the campaign began way back in August, their Ayr counterparts will no doubt see consolidation in the Scottish Championship as a sign of continuing progress this season in what is undoubtedly an extremely tough division. Saturday's match will bring a welcome distraction from league duties for both sides with the enticing prospect of a good cup run and/or draw and all the welcome financial incentives that will bring to whoever comes out on top.
