Brechin City v ICT: Match Preview - By Grant Hood

Darren Dods welcomes a previous employer to Glebe Park in the form of Inverness Caledonian Thistle for City’s second home game in this season’s Ladbrokes Championship.

Indeed, it was John Robertson - re-installed as manager in time for the start of this season - who signed Dods for the Highland club. Old friendships will be set aside for 90 minutes of fierce action as City look to build on the point gained against Livingston and the hugely encouraging performance against Championship favourites Dundee United on their own turf last weekend.

Given the convincing nature of ICT’s Betfred Cup victory over City in the first action of the season, few would have thought City would go into this game with a higher league placing - albeit down to a one goal margin only.

In squad news, Dods has Gary Fusco back in contention for a starting place following his absence at Tannadice, although injury may see Elliot Ford excluded from the squad. Also missing will be long term injury victims Euan Smith and Ryan McGeever, the latter due to his hand fracture at Buckie Thistle. Following two recent substitute appearances, City fans will be keen to see if attacking midfielder Liam Watt returns to the starting line-up.

The visitors will be without Collin Seedorf following his two yellow cards against Morton last weekend, and have a sufficient depth of squad to deal with the absence of several first team players such as Aaron Doran, Zak Elbouzedi and Carl Tremarco through injury. Gary Warren, Brad McKay , Charlie Trafford and Ricardo Calder will all have their fitness assessed as they look to recover from a variety of knocks.

The referee for the first clash between the two teams at The Glebe since January 2004, is Mat Northcroft.

Supporters of both Clubs are reminded that free access is available to The City Club (restricted to over 18s only) which opens at 1pm through to kick-off, and from full time through to 8pm. Post match BT Sport coverage of Manchester United v Leicester City will also add to the day.

The match is being sponsored by long-time supporter of Brechin City FC, Graham Thomson of Turner & Townsend Ltd, and the Match Ball is being sponsored by local firm Steelfingers. Matchday mascots are Murray Thomson, Fraser Thomson along with a mascot debut for 4-year-old Robbie Thomson.

The Club’s Matchday Magazine “A View from the Hedge” has been published and is available for sale before the match for only £2.00.
