Livingston v Brechin City: Match Preview
- By
Grant Hood
Darren Dods takes his Brechin City side to meet Livingston in search of a first 3-point haul of the season against one of the divisions form teams.
Those outside the City camp might be surprised to learn that, despite City’s lowly league position and low points tally, morale remains high amongst the players and management resulting in a firm belief that success isn’t too far away. A run of 5 consecutive defeats would deflate most but, given 4 of these were by one goal, that begins to tell the story that City are close to finding their feet in a demanding and at times unforgiving Championship.
Despite Livingston’s dominance over City during their surge to last season’s League One Title, enjoying 4 comfortable victories along the way, the Lions travelling support left The Glebe shocked and dismayed after their August visit. Second half goals from Kalvin Orsi and Finn Graham saw City claw back a 2 goal deficit to secure a first Championship point in the first home league game of the season.
Since then Livingston have gone on to produce an impressive sequence of Championship results including a run of 4 consecutive victories only ended last week by a 3-1 reverse at East End Park against Dunfermline Athletic. This sees David Hopkin’s side currently enjoy a lofty third place in the league table and their fans thoroughly revelling in their return to Scottish football’s second tier.
Manager Dods reports little change in the squad news from last week, with long terms injuries continuing to exclude Andy Jackson, Ryan McGeever and Euan Smith. A red card issued in stoppage time last week against Queen of the South means that Ally Love will join that trio on the sidelines in a 2-game ban which will exclude him from Dumbarton’s visit to The Glebe next week too.
The match will be refereed by Stephen Finnie who is taking charge of a City game for the first time since a 2-2 midweek draw against Peterhead at Glebe Park in March 2015. He will be assisted by Anthony Cooper and David Doig.
