QotS v Brechin City - Match Preview

Steven Mew
It’s back to the reality of Championship league action tomorrow as City make the long trip to face Queen of the South at Palmerston.
Now that the memorable Scottish Cup tie against Celtic at Parkhead is over, Darren Dods and his side turn their attention to the Doonhamers as they continue to chase their first league win of the season.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
The two sides met on the opening day of the season at Palmerston in August. A City side hit hard with injuries and suspensions struggled against the Doonhamers and found themselves three goals down after an hour. A close range finish from Chris O’Neil gave City brief hope but Lyndon Dykes wrapped up the win for the home side in what was a tough introduction to life in the Championship for City.
In the reverse fixture at Glebe Park in October, the Doonhamers edged out City as Jason Kerr netted the solitary goal on the hour mark. Despite there being only one goal in the game, it was a thoroughly entertaining encounter with chances aplenty at both ends. Referee Craig Charleston hadn’t issued a single card all game up until stoppage time where an unsavoury incident saw both Ally Love and goalscorer Jason Kerr dismissed for a clash on the touchline.
LAST TIME OUT
In the last league match, City slumped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Livingston at Glebe Park. A first half penalty from Craig Halkett put the Lions on their way before Scott Robinson wrapped up the points midway through the second half.
The Doonhamers didn’t fare too much better in their last outing as they fell to a 3-1 defeat against Inverness at the Caledonian Stadium. Goals from Iain Vigurs, Joe Chalmers and Aaron Doran did the damage for Caley, with Owen Bell pulling a goal back late on for the visitors.
TEAM NEWS
Midfielder Callum Tapping will be available to face his former club after being cup tied for the Celtic game last weekend. Meanwhile, full back Chris O’Neil won’t be amongst the squad after he completed a loan switch to League 1 side Airdrieonians during the week. City’s only definite absentee will be Ryan McGeever who underwent a successful operation this week with long term rehabilitation on the agenda for the big defender.
MATCH OFFICIALS
The referee for the game will be Andrew Dallas. He will be assisted by Stephen Mitchell and David Dunne. This will be the first time that Dallas, son of ex top flight referee Hugh, has officiated a City game this season.
