Dumbarton v Brechin City - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

City are on the road again as they travel south west to face Dumbarton at the YOUR Radio 103FM Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

With Dumbarton currently the side closest to City at the bottom of the Championship league table and acutely aware that the Sons are the only other part time side in the division – Darren Dods and his squad will undoubtedly be keen to grab their first league win and close the gap slightly on their opponents.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS
City travelled to Dumbarton back in September and made the perfect start after just 86 seconds when Jordan Sinclair beat the keeper with a cross-cum-shot at the near post. The reds were looking comfortable up until the dismissal of Aron Lynas for a rash challenge with 20 minutes remaining which turned the game on its head. Goals in the last eight minutes from Mark Stewart and Dimitris Froxylias earned all 3 points for the home side.

At the reverse fixture at Glebe Park in November, there was to be more misery for City as a own goal from Willie Dyer in stoppage time handed the Sons a crucial win in a match that looked to be heading for a stalemate.

LAST TIME OUT
City made the long trip to face Queen of the South at Palmerston last weekend but ultimately slumped to a disappointing 3-1 defeat. Striker Stephen Dobbie was on top form for the Doonhamers as he netted a superb hat-trick.  A late well-worked goal from Kalvin Orsi proved to be nothing more than a consolation for City.

Dumbarton will also be looking to bounce back after they were beaten 2-0 by Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Stadium. Goals from Alan Lithgow and Ryan Hardie did the damage as high flying Livi consigned the Sons to a 10th league defeat of the season.

TEAM NEWS
Paul McLean is still struggling with a knee injury sustained at Palmerston - the City skipper will be given every opportunity to prove his fitness up until the game. Long term injury victim Ryan McGeever continues his rehabilitation following his operation but other than that, everyone else should be available for selection.

There could be another start for recent signing Callumn Morrison and a debut for Dylan Mackin who signed on loan from Livingston before the transfer deadline during the week. Manager Darren Dods said, "Callumn did really well last week. He will be a good addition, he is quick and will deliver crosses."

On Mackin, Dods said, "We tried to get him last season so we are delighted to get him on loan now. He's a big striker, something we've not had since Robert Thomson left. I think he will provide a different option to the strikers we have."

The news coming out of Dumbarton is that ex-City defender Dougie Hill is likely to miss out with a leg knock, joining Sam Wardrop and Mark Stewart on the sidelines. Meanwhile, Christian Nade is likely to return to the squad. January signings Liam Dick, Iain Russell, Kevin Nisbett and Andy Stirling will also be amongst the Sons contingent.

MATCH OFFICIALS
The referee for the game for will be Alan Newlands, assisted by Gordon Crawford and Willie Ferguson. This will be the 4th time that Newlands has officiated a City game this season and he hasn’t been a good omen for the reds – he was in charge of the 2-0 Betfred Cup defeat against League 2 outfit Stirling Albion in July, the 4-1 defeat against Morton at Cappielow in December and the New Year derby against Dundee United at Tannadice where City went down 4-1 also.
