Brechin City v Dunfermline Athletic: PITCH INSPECTION
- By

IN LIGHT OF THE PITCH HAVING AN OVERNIGHT COVERING OF SNOW, WITH MORE BAD WEATHER FORECAST, A PITCH INSPECTION HAS BEEN CALLED FOR 12 NOON TO DETERMINE WHETHER THIS MATCH CAN GO AHEAD. FURTHER UPDATES TO FOLLOW.
The SPFL fixture computer wasn’t kind to either Brechin City or Dunfermline Athletic, choosing to pair the two in a Tuesday midweek for a match which supporters of both clubs would have liked to have seen in a conventional Saturday slot. However, it wasn’t to be, and the City squad have little time to dust themselves down after Saturday’s defeat to runaway Championship leaders St Mirren.
Two successive 1-0 defeats have been hard to take for Darren Dods’ men, but the belief around the squad remains remarkably intact as City chase that elusive first Championship victory.
The Pars have certainly held the upper hand over City in recent clashes, albeit the Fifers come into the game with no wins in their last six outings. That was preceded though with 3 straight Championship victories, the first of that sequence being the victory over City at East End Park just before Christmas.
The City squad has been boosted in recent weeks with no less than 5 newcomers to The Club, with Craig Storie and Dundee loanee Kostadin Gadzhalov both making their debuts on Saturday at The Paisley 2021 Stadium.
In terms of updates from the playing squad in the aftermath of Saturday’s match, Club Captain Paul McLean, striker Andy Jackson and leading scorer Jordan Sinclair all remain sidelined along with Aron Lynas who serves the second of his 3-match suspension. Forwards Callumn Morrison and Kalvin Orsi are both now carrying knocks from Saturday but remain in contention – along with defender Kosta Gadzhalov who suffered a facial injury but remains hopeful of inclusion.
The match will be refereed by Stephen Finnie, who has been in charge of only one other City game this season, that being the 3-2 defeat at Livingston in October.
The City Club will be open to supporters of both Clubs (over-18s only) for an hour before and an hour after kick-off, with the Platinum Lounge open as usual for those who upgraded to Hospitality Season Tickets.
A midweek publication of The Club’s Matchday Magazine “A View from the Hedge” will be available to purchase for only £2 and will allow supporters the opportunity to catch up with The Chairman’s frank assessment of the season to date. Fans should also keep £1 of their loose change handy and look out for tickets for the Matchday Whisky Draw.
Given predicted downturn in weather conditions, concerns do exist over the match going ahead. The word from inside The Club is that the playing surface was entirely playable during the Monday prior to the game, so everything will depend upon the overnight conditions and weather events during the course of Tuesday. As always, Brechin City’s social media channels and the official club website are the best source of breaking news.
