Brechin City v Airdrieonians - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

Brechin City's players are hoping for an altogether more fruitful weekend than last, following the postponement of the game at Stranraer.

The players were already in Glasgow on Saturday morning when formal notification of the postponement came through along with the realisation of a future Tuesday night trip to Stair Park.

Sixth-placed Airdrieonians are the visitors to Glebe Park tomorrow and similarly to City, they have recently made a recent change in Management with Ian Murray taking the reigns in mid-October.

City supporters will be hoping the weeks break will be advantageous following a disappointing run which has seen the club yield just 1 win in 8 outings. Airdrie meanwhile are without a win in their last three games, but had won four on the bounce prior to that.

TEAM NEWS
Manager Barry Smith and Coach Stevie Campbell are left with the same squad to select from, with the return to fitness of St Johnstone loanee Callum Hendry as potentially the most exciting development. The 21-year-old striker broke his hand against Raith Rovers at Starks Park in September. The only confirmed injury casualties remain as Ryan McGeever and Dene Shields.

Barry commented, "The boys have worked hard again during our sessions this week and will be ready to face Airdrie who pose a threat with the experience in their ranks. As it's our last game at home this year, I'd like to wish all our fans a Merry Christmas and pass on a huge thank you from the players, Stevie and myself for the support we're receiving."

MATCH OFFICIALS
Taking charge of the game tomorrow is experienced whistler Alan Newlands, he will be assisted by Mark McLean and Craig King. The last match Newlands officiated at the Glebe was the heavy 7-1 defeat against Dunfermline in the Betfred Cup where Giuiliano Morena was given his marching orders shortly after half time for a second yellow card.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Airdrieonians 1-3 Brechin City - 6th October 2018
City travelled to face the Diamonds at the Penny Cars Stadium in October - the scene of our only win on the road this season to date. Joao Victoria gave the hosts the lead on the quarter hour mark but an almost immediate reply from Andy Jackson ensured City went in at the break level. A stunning long range strike from Sean Burns and a superb individual goal from Jackson handed City a comfortable win.
