Forfar Athletic v Brechin City - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

City round off 2018 with a short journey along the A90 to face Forfar Athletic for the third meeting between the sides this season.

Brechin have failed to record a single point since the 4-0 win over the Loons last month - Barry Smith and his side will be keen to get back on track with a derby win to end the year.

TEAM NEWS
Of significance to City supporters is the news update on influential midfielder playmaker Callum Tapping who was stretchered from the field last Saturday in clear distress. It has subsequently been confirmed that he has indeed suffered a fracture and this will keep him out for a minimum of 6 weeks.

There are no new injury concerns elsewhere in the squad meaning the only definite absentees along with 'Tappy' are defender Ryan McGeever and striker Dene Shields.

Manager Barry Smith commented, "Clearly it's a blow to lose Callum as he's a key player for us, and we wish him well for a speedy recovery. The game against Forfar sees us up against the team we enjoyed success against most recently, so hopefully the players can take confidence from that result.

"Given this is the final game of 2018 I'd personally like to wish the fans a Happy New Year as we look forward to a positive 2019 with everyone sticking together on and off the park."

The Loons report that other than long term injury victims Matty Aitken and Aidan Wilson, Manager Jim Weir will have a full squad to choose from.

MATCH OFFICIALS
Taking charge of the derby tomorrow is Barry Cook who will be assisted by Drew Kirkland and Chris McNab. Cook was in charge of the opening league game of the season at Stenhousemuir where, despite the home side being reduced to 10 men in the first half, City went down 1-0 to the Warriors.

The match is not segregated and City fans will gain entry via the main turnstiles on Carseview Road. Admission prices are as follows:

- Adult £14 (£15 Stand)
- Concessions £8 (£9 Stand)

PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Brechin City 4-0 Forfar Athletic - 10 November 2018
The newly appointed Management team of Barry Smith and Stevie Campbell got off to the perfect start with a thumping win over the Loons at Glebe Park. City simply blew Forfar away in the first half, with Andy Jackson grabbing a brace and Aron Lynas adding a third goal in a crazy 8 minute spell. Loanee Cameron Blues added the gloss to the win with a 4th goal eight minutes from time.

Forfar Athletic 1-1 Brechin City - 22 September 2018
The last meeting at Station Park saw a share of the spoils. On loan St Johnstone striker Callum Hendry opened the scoring for City on 17 minutes but a headed goal from Michael Travis earned the Loons a point.

City's last win against Forfar at Station Park came on the last day of the 2015/16 season where goals from Darren McCormack and Jamie Robson earned City a 2-1 win. This result confirmed League One safety for City, completing what went down as 'The Great Escape".
