Brechin City v Stranraer - Match Preview
- By
Steven Mew
City welcome Stranraer to Glebe Park tomorrow afternoon hoping to continue the mini revival which has yielded three wins from the last four matches.
Stranraer meanwhile, under the guidance of Stevie Farrell, are currently on a poor run of form which has seen them pick up just one point in the last six league matches which has seen them slip down to 9th place, just a point behind City.
TEAM NEWS
Injuries continue to hamper the Brechin City team selection with only one in and one out in terms of the squad which travelled to Airdrie last weekend and returned with a fine victory. Having been substituted late on at The Penny Cars Stadium, midfielder Jordan Sinclair joins no fewer than 5 of his team-mates on the sidelines, namely Dene Shields, Callum Tapping, Euan Spark, Sean Burns as well as Kalvin Orsi - who failed a late fitness test last weekend and won't feature against Stranraer.
On the plus side, Dundee United loanee Lewis Toshney is once again available again for selection. The Manager also revealed that negotiations are underway with a Scottish Premiership club for the loan services of a young striker. Although this is unlikely to be concluded in time for the game against Stranraer, it is hoped that this can be finalised next week before the closure of the February window for loan signings.
The Club also confirmed the departure of 19-year-old goalkeeper Scott Costello, who leaves to join Thornton Hibs having spent the vast majority of his time as a signed Brechin City player out on loan. The Club wishes him well in his future career and thanks him for his efforts during his time with The Club.
MANAGER COMMENT
Barry Smith commented, "The players can take great heart from an excellent defensive display against Airdrie last week, leaving us with a third win in four games. Although Stranraer will come to The Glebe with a firm belief they can take something from the game, at home its down to us to take the initiative and look to build on an encouraging sequence of results. The lads proved last week that, even when we're short of squad numbers, there's a determination and work ethic which gives us something solid to build on."

PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Brechin City 1-1 Stranraer - 29th September 2018
The only previous fixture this season saw a share of the spoils at Glebe Park in September. An inch-perfect 20 yard free kick from Callum Tapping had given City a half time lead, however Luke Donnelly struck late for Stranraer 5 minutes from time to earn a draw.
